I love using collage to shift my thinking. When I cut up pages from the Sunday supplement or fashion magazines and adverts it instantly gives me new colour combinations or surface pattern, which I can then interpret in my painting and break habits that could form.
I sometimes put found images together with quotes or overheard phrases. Over time themes can emerge, which then guide ideas in whole bodies of work.
And despite being an abstract artist I love drawing from observation but I clearly have a desire to interpret what I see rather than represent it realistically.
My journal pages are a safe place to play, where anything can happen and it keeps my mind alive.
